How Can I Make Money Blogging?

That is the question of the hour. Thats is what this site is primarily about. So you have written articles, have good material, solid readership and decent traffic.. now what?

Google Adsense: By far the most widely known method of advertising on the web. This site has it as well as many of your favorites. The ads are targeted to your site’s content, so if you have a post about goats you will problably get some ads for lawnmowers. It’s easy to register for and set up, however, it is probably the lowest paying form of site advertising. You get paid for clicks and the minimum payout is $100 so a new blogger may have to wait seemingly forever to get any money.

Paid Links: This is another very popular method for our blog to earn money. Sites like Text Link Ads will handle the setup and get paid links onto your site. Different from contextual ads, paid links are bought for a set price to appear on your site for a set period of time. Readers clicking the links have nothing to do with the price of the add, it is agreed upon based on several factors including traffic, click through rate and the niche your blog is in. You could also offer paid links yourself if you don’t mind administering them. The Text Link Ads are nice because you have to do nothing to get it rolling.

Paid Posts: I haven’t tried it yet but this is another popular method to make money with your blog. Basically, you get paid to write a review for a product. Of course the product could be anything from goat lawnmowers to a writeup about a website. If anyone is interested in a post on this blog just contact me and we can get into details. I’m just starting.. so I’m cheap. Get on it before this site explodes!

Affiliate Programs:There are tons of affiliate programs to try out. These work by you refering traffic to thier website and if the reader you referred pruchases or signs up for something you get some sort of kickback. I haven’t tried this out much, but sites like Text Link Ads or Blog Rush have affiliate programs or even hosting companies such as Blue Host or Site5 pay affiliate links.

Those are just a few ways to monetize your blog. First thing first, though… Build traffic.

A Blog Post is Like Trying to Get Laid

Now I have your attention don’t I? So exactly how is a blog post like trying to get laid you ask.. Well, building your websites traffic is one of the most important things you should be doing if you are blogging for the purpose of making a little bank. Gettin laid is an important part of life. See they are the same.

Okay, I’m reaching there but hear me out. The first part of getting laid is the initail meeting and making a first impression. You want to come off interesting or exciting. That is the blog headline. First impression, attention getter, whatever you want to call it. My headline made you interested in what i was going to say next.

So you have the initial attraction going and you now need to show that you are more than a catchy headline, a one-liner or some eye candy. You need to have an interesting post. It needs to tell a story. And not a story about how cute your cat was when she tried to catch the laser pointer you were shining on the wall. The story has to be interesting or funny. Or it needs to be informative. Like this post (I hope). Tell people how to do something or tell them your opinion on a certain topic.

This particular post is about making a blog post. You need to have an attention getter as a headline. People see that first in google, or rss feeds, trackbacks or whatever. This is your opener. You only have one shot at it. Make it good. It is your ice-breaker at the bar. It will get your foot in the door or get you completely ignored. Work on em.

The body of the post is like a few dates. You have the attention of the reader and you are working on getting laid. If you deliver the goods then your reader will come back for more and possibly tell others about you. This in turn will get you laid by others. Men and women. Once you are successful, people will line up to get laid by you. You have to be vigilant in your efforts, take a few for the team (not every post will score you a 9 or 10, but be thankful for the 3’s), be persistant in posting regularly and don’t be afraid to be shot down.

Once the ball is rolling it will be easier to attract more visitors to the site. Analogy finished.
